PITT COUNTY -

Eight students were taken to the hospital Friday after a hose on a school bus burst and burned some of them.

Five high school and three middle school students heading to Farmville schools were hurt. In addition to the burns, some of them suffered leg and ankle injuries as a result from getting off the bus quickly.

There were abouf 50 children total on the bus at the time of the accident, which was reported at around 7:45 a.m. It all went down in the area of Davenport Farm Road and Highway 13.

Those injured were taken to Vidant Medical Center in Greenville, everyone else was taken to their repsective schools.

The eight students in the hospital were released a few hours later.

Mechanics are still trying to figure out how this happened. Buses are inspected every thirty days. The bus will remain in the garage until officials are certain the bus is fixed and safe for the students to ride on.
