GREENVILLE -

Police arrested a woman in connection with a shoplifting incident at Kohl's.

Vera McLean, 37, of Williamston, was facing felony larceny charges because she allegedly tried to remove anti-theft devices from items at the store, police said. Items McLean was allegedly trying to steal included several pairs of boots and pieces of jewelry.  The incident happened at 7:45 p.m. Wednesday, police said.

McLean was being held in jail on a $50,000 bond.  Greenville Police said they usually see a spike of shoplifting around the holidays.

The Greenville department plans to have more patrols around malls and retail stores over Black Friday. According to police spokesperson Sgt. Joe Friday, many retail stores upgrade their security for the shopping day as well. Though the added security doesn't always stop criminals.

"I think there are people that are too lazy to work and they feel like they have to do that and that's what they do for a living is they steal," Friday said.
