KINSTON -

Eleven years after the September 11th attacks, people around the country are remembering the day.

Locally, a memorial service in Kinston held by AMVETS Post 1111 brought dozens of people to Pearson Park dozens of people to honor 9/11 victims and heroes.

It's a day that brings back memories for those involved.

"It feels like yesterday," Lynn Childs, who attended the ceremony, said.

Childs was working in Washington, D.C. the day of the attack. She still remembers the moments after the planes hit.

"It was a day just like here today and it was just quiet. I've never heard quiet like that."

It's the third year AMVETS has held the ceremony. Local police officers, firefighters and emergency crews attended the event to reflect on the anniversary.
