Police seek to avoid arrest in high school lockdown
Morehead City Police Major Garland Terry has confirmed that authorities have made contact with the the student who made alleged threats which caused West Carteret High School to go on lockdown Wednesday.
Police are working with both families in order to avoid an arrest in the case, Terry said.
Terry also confirmed the student that was removed from class Thursday was the alleged victim, not the student who made the alleged threats.
A lockdown at West Carteret High School now has police searching for two students.
Tabbie Nance with Carteret County Schools said the lockdown started after noon Wednesday. Officials said one student threatened another student, and the school was advised to put the school on lockdown. One person was removed from the school.
The representative from the school says a message will be sent to parents via telephone. The names of the students involved has not been released.
Morehead City Police responded to assist in the lockdown.
