Police: Teen found shot at Greenville apartment complex
Police said a teen was found shot in Greenville Monday morning, and officers are still looking for the shooter.
Officers told NewsChannel 12 that Charles Highsmith, 17, was shot in the leg and was taken to Vidant Medical Center. He suffered non-life threatening injuries, investigators said.
The victim was found at an apartment complex on Best Rd., off of B's Barbeque Rd., at about 9 a.m. Monday. But witnesses said they did not hear any gunshots, and police could not find a crime scene at the apartment complex.
"We are investigating the possibility that this may have happened somewhere else," said Greenville Police Sgt. Joe Friday.
Officers interviewed Highsmith at the hospital. But according to police, the teen was not very helpful. While he said he didn't shoot himself, he had no idea how he got shot, or who shot him.
At last check, police had made no arrests in this case.
Residents at the apartment complex where Highsmith was found declined to speak with NewsChannel 12. But some did say the complex is generally safe and quiet.
Pitt County School officials said Highsmith enrolled at South Central High School. But he withdrew in February, 2012.
