GREENVILLE -

A pair of robbers allegedly used a machete to steal a man's vehicle and $1,000 in clothing, police said.

Mohammed Hossen Awadallah, 34, of Winterville, told investigators he was robbed at about 8:47 p.m. Sunday in the parking lot at 100 Riverbluff Road in Greenville, said Sgt. Joe Friday, Jr.

Awadallah told police he was trying to sell some shoes to a man he knew as "Bootsie," Sgt. Friday said. But another suspect came to the scene and gave a machete to "Bootsie," who then tried to attack Awadallah, the victim told police.

According to Sgt. Friday, Awadallah said he left his vehicle behind and ran away from the robbers. But the suspects got into Awadallah's vehicle and drove off. Awadallah said his car contained $1,000 worth of clothes, shoes and baseball caps.

Police were able to find Awadallah's vehicle a short time later, Sgt. Friday said. But all the merchandise were gone.

Awadallah was not seriously injured, and he refused to be taken to Vidant Medical Center, Sgt. Friday said.

No arrests had been made in the case. Anyone with information was asked to call the Greenville Police Department at 252-329-4315 or Pitt Greenville CrimeStoppers at 252-758-7777.
