GREENVILLE, PITT COUNTY -

Police said they are looking for a robber who held up a Family Dollar in Greenville Sunday night, the second such store to be robbed within a month.

A man, armed with a black handgun, robbed the Family Dollar at 625 S. Memorial Drive, at about 8:10 p.m. on Sunday, officers said.

Police described the suspect as a black male, about 5’7”, with a slim build. He was seen wearing a red bandana over his face, and was wearing dark clothing.

The man threatened to shoot one of the two clerks on duty, investigators said. He then allegedly forced the clerk to open a safe, and escaped with an undisclosed amount of cash.

The robbery happened after another Family Dollar store, located on 2530 S. Memorial Drive, was robbed on Feb. 20, police said. Officers are investigating similarities between the two robberies.

"The suspect descriptions are somewhat similar, certainly looking into that," said Sgt. Joe Friday. "We're treating them as if they're connected."

The robbery on Feb. 20 involved two suspects; one of them was armed with a silver semi-automatic handgun, police said. They were both described as black males, dressed in dark clothing. One of the men wore a hockey mask while the other, like the suspect in the latest case, wore a red bandana over his face. They also escaped with an undisclosed amount of cash.

In both cases, authorities said they were unable to determine what direction the suspects escaped to.
