(AP) - Gov. Beverly Perdue says she's aiming to find a solution to ensure 2,000 people living in group homes across North Carolina will keep their place to live without her calling legislators back to Raleigh at the holidays.
    
Perdue said Tuesday in an interview she hoped she could avoid a special session of the General Assembly to direct money to assist group homes whose residents no longer qualify for personal care services beginning Jan. 1. She said that would require making an emergency declaration to let her move money around without formal legislative approval.
    
Perdue said she'd like to unveil her plan by the end of the week.
    
The Legislature this summer set aside $40 million to help adult care homes with similar problems. But group homes weren't specifically identified.
