JACKSONVILLE -

As of June the NC Department of Commerce reported that unemployment rates have increased in 84 counties. Despite this harsh reality things are slowly starting to pick up in Onslow County, thanks to the Opening of Kohl’s Department store.

Keshia Capers is one of more than 75 people who showed up to the Kohl’s job fair in Jacksonville.

Nearly 100 positions are up for grabs at the department store scheduled to open in late September.

District Manager Bill Christensen says the store location located off of Western Boulevard will be 1 of 12 opening this fall.

“We been talking about coming to Jacksonville for a long time now were really looking forward to being a part of this community, “said Christensen.

For Capers, this news is right on time. The soon to be graduate USC Charlotte says the opening, provides her with an alternative until she can start grad school.

“I wanted to get started early and find a job as soon as possible, so I don't have to worry about what I wanna do when I graduate,” said Capers.

Kohl’s not only brings jobs to the table, but hope for some.

“I'm hoping they call me back and say you gotta job,” said Rodney Self who’s been unemployed for a year.

Jahtek Troy says he's tired of spending up to 2 hours in the unemployment office

“I wasn’t the only on sitting at the unemployment office waiting hopefully this will be something for somebody to step up and try to excel and do better,” said Troy.

The job fair will be held August 4th -8th at Northside High School on Commons Drive South.
