New Bern prepped for first-ever public sand box
Fifteen-year-old Joshua Forbis is taking on a big project for his eagle scout title, he is set to bring the first public sandbox to New Bern.
The sandbox will be located near the entrance of Creekside Park on Old Airport Road. The 16 foot by 16 foot play area will be build directly next to a pre-existing playground and swing set. The sand box will feature interactive pieces like a lily pad walk, digging shovels, and tick tack toe boards. Forbis says, he hopes the project will help small children with hand, eye and wrist coordination.
The total cost of the sandbox is upwards of $6,000. Currently Forbis has raised around $2,000. All the money must be donated for the project to meet eagle scout standards.
