Firefighters battled flames at a house on Peppercorn Road in the Greenbrier neighborhood of New Bern Thursday afternoon. The fire broke out around 1 p.m.
The homeowner tells NewsChannel 12 that he and his wife were at home at the time. They smelled smoke and called 911.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation, but the owner believes it began on the front porch.
