Red Cross volunteers from New Bern who went to New York to help Superstorm Sandy victims are back at home.
Seven volunteers had been helping out on Staten Island. They worked out of a food truck that was supplied with hot cooked meals from a New York Baptist Church.
Red Cross Captain Ralph Aviles said they served about 12,000 meals daily.
"We would show up with hot cooked meals for lunch, and between all those drivers was probably 6,000 hot meals for lunch; and you'd distribute them to the people...you'd go back and they'd load you back up for dinner, another 6,000 meals," Aviles said.
The group volunteered for 10 to 14 days in New York.
