NEW BERN -

During the off season, the New Bern Bears are still getting trophies.

"We pick 50 schools out of 16,000. New Bern is one of the schools that stood out among the rest.  They finished 82nd in the nation," said Justin Smith, MaxPreps Regional Representative.

MasPreps is the leading online destination for high school coverage, analysis and rankings.  The football team's undefeated season and 4-A state championship qualified them for the distinguished award.  Head coach Bobby Curlings says it's just more proof that the team that works hard together, wins together.

"I feel like all of these guys are part of my extended family so anytime we're recognized as a family instead of individuals means a lot," said Coach Curlings.

The New Bern Bears have been recognized regionally.  They won the state championship and now they have national recognition.

"I think we're pretty humbled by it.  This has never happened at New Bern High School before," said NBHS quarterback Josh Taylor.

The Minute Man Trophy will be added to the New Bern Bears growing trophy collection
