A Marine just weeks from retirement died Saturday in a motorcycle accident.

The investigating trooper says 37-year-old Richard Madore was going too fast as he was driving onto Highway 70.

It happened on an on ramp; Madore had just come over the drawbridge in downtown New Bern and was heading west.

The wreck happened shortly after 2 a.m.

The motorcycle ran off the road, flipped, and hit a sign, the trooper said.

Madore was stationed at Cherry Point.
