Man sentenced for deadly stabbing near park
According to Pitt County Clerk of Courts, Jimmy Richardson plead guilty Friday for the fatal stabbing of Leroy "Stretch" Staton.
Staton, 36, was found stabbed in the parking lot of Jaycee Park in Greenville around 9:30 p.m. on Nov. 17, 2011.
Staton was taken to the hospital where he later died.
Greenville Police later charged then 19-year-old Jimmy Richardson with an open count of murder.
Police never said if a fight led to the stabbing. However, they did confirm that this was a drug-related crime.
On Friday, Richardson took a plea deal for felony voluntary manslaughter. The judge sentenced him to 72-96 months in prison. That's according to the Pitt County Clerk of Courts.
