GREENVILLE -

A man, who broke into a Greenville home while the homeowner hid in her bathroom, was sentenced Tuesday.

According to The Reflector, Maceo Lamont Gardner, 24, pleaded guilty to first-degree burglary, felony breaking and entering, felony larceny and habitual felon. A Pitt County judge sentenced Gardner to at least 21 years in prison.

Police said Maceo Gardner, along with his brother, 28-year-old Mark Gardner, broke into a Westhaven home in Greenville in July, 2012. According to investigators, the homeowner hid in her bathroom during the break-in and called 911 (CLICK HERE TO HEAR THAT CALL). She was not hurt.

Officers said Maceo and Mark Gardner were not only responsible for that break-in, but for eight other break-ins at homes and apartments in Greenville, dating back to April, 2012.

Some of the stolen jewelry and electronics had been returned, police said. Mark Gardner had not been tried yet.
