Man sentenced for breaking and entering spree
A New Bern man was sentenced to prison Tuesday, for breaking into a large number of cars
Aries Donte Harris, 22, pleaded guilty to 19 counts of of felony breaking and entering of motor vehicles, as well as felony breaking and entering of a residence and assault on a female.
The judge ordered Harris to serve eight to 19 months in prison, followed by three years of probation. Harris was also ordered to pay $3,500 in restitution to victims. According to District Attorney Scott Thomas, if Harris violates his probation, he would have to serve up to eight years behind bars.
According to indictments filed in August, 2012, Harris and another person broke into unlocked cars in River Bend and New Bern. Money and electronics, such as iPods and cell phones, were stolen, then sold or pawned.
Investigators said Harris also broke into a New Bern home in April 2012, by squeezing through a dog door while the homeowner was at work. He then stole or damaged televisions, electronics, money and jewelry, according to police.
