A man is killed in a crash and his passenger remains in serious condition.
This happened around 3 a.m. Saturday on Mobleys Bridge Road, just east of Foster Road.
Troopers identified the driver as 51 year old Johnny Ray Elks.
Officials said Elks was left of the center and ran off the road, striking the bridge rail. After pulling back onto the road, he then became left of the center again. This time the truck hit a tree, killing Elks on impact. Officials said the tree went through the windshield.
The passenger was taken to Vidant Medical Center. The passengers name is not being released until the family is notified.
Troopers said speed may have been a factor and that they did smell alcohol in the vehicle. However, officials are waiting on an autopsy to see if Elks had any alcohol in his system.
