GREENVILLE, PITT COUNTY- -

A man is in a medically induced coma and his ex-girlfriend facing an attempted murder charge after she allegedly pinned him against a wall of Greenville’s Camelot Inn with her truck last week.

Joshua Pearson had his eye socket, hip and ribs broken after the collision. He also had his right leg amputated at the thigh.

His family told us that earlier today, he underwent emergency surgery to remove part of his skull and relieve pressure on his brain. They also said he’s in a medically induced coma and they’re unsure when he’ll be out of it.

His sister, Michelle Wright of New Bern, said last time they spoke with Pearson “he woke up, and um, pulled his machines and stuff out, that he feels, he said I feel really bad." Toi Jenkins, his cousin, said “he don't deserve this and he just, right now, every day is a blessing to see him still alive."

Shameika Nicole Smith, the woman who allegedly pinned Pearson with her truck, was in court this morning. His family said she’s facing an attempted first degree murder charge, as well as charges of assault with a deadly weapon and injury to real property.

Jenkins said of Smith that she “came in the courtroom like she had an attitude, like she was angry at everybody else like, you angry at us but you tried to take his life away from him. And we still don't know if you took his life away from us because we're fighting every day." Wright went on to say she “just wanted justice for my brother. And this morning made me feel really good, to know that she's behind bars where she belongs."

If convicted Smith could serve life in prison. She’s currently being held under $200,000 dollar bond.
