Man Charged in Wreck That Closed Highway
A man is charged in a crash that shut down a portion of Highway 70.
The wreck happened around 4 p.m. Thursday in front of the Toyota dealership, near River Bluffs Drive in New Bern.
Richard Johnson, 65, was charged with failure to yield. He was attempting to cross the highway, but did not yield to oncoming traffic, Trooper M.A. Riggs said. Johnson's car hit an SUV, driven by 33-year-old Erik Korhonen. His unidentified passenger had to be pulled out of the vehicle by fire crews.
He was transported to Carolina East Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries, Trooper Riggs said. No one else was hurt.
Highway 70 at that area was reopened after about an hour.
