Investigators are searching for a hit-and-run driver in Maysville.

The wreck happened about 6:30 Friday morning on Highway 17 in Jones county.

Troopers said 31-year-old David O'Brien crossed the center line and hit a car with a woman and her seven-year-old son inside.

The victim, 24-year-old Kenisha Harper, was driving to Jacksonville with her son when the accident happened. She said by the time she realized what happened, O'Brien was gone.

"To leave like that just blows my mind," Harper said.

Both she and her son suffered minor injuries.

Investigators think the man took off in the nearby woods.
K9 units searched the area, but could not pick up a scent.

Investigators found methamphetamine inside the van that was left at the scene. They said the van is registered to an owner in Jacksonville who did not give O'Brien authorization to drive it.

Two warrants are issued for O'Brien's arrest. Court records show O'Brien has several prior convinctions in Jones, Onslow and Duplin Counties, ranging from larceny to felony breaking and entering.
