Icy weather causes local school delays Monday morning
A storm system working to our north this morning is dragging much warmer air with it and finally routing out the cold Arctic air that has been in place in Eastern Carolina for the last week or so.
This has caused some light spotty showers to break out across our far northwestern counties like Martin and Bertie counties. This system could allow light, spotty, freezing drizzle to occur in Bertie and Martin counties only, before sunrise.
We want to alert you to several local school delays for Monday. Edgecombe County is operating on a 3-hour-delay. Hertford County Schools is operating on a 2-hour-delay and Gates County Schools is operating on a 1-hour-delay.
The bulk of this action is evaporating before it reaches the ground as it's running into very dry air still in place over Eastern North Carolina.
Warmer air will flood in behind this system and stick around until the middle part of this week. Highs this afternoon will reach into the mid to upper 50s. I'm predicting 70s for Tuesday and Wednesday. This warmth will be short lived as a strong cold front arrives late Wednesday night into Thursday morning.
Another Arctic shot will come our way just in time for next weekend.
