Owner of condemned Pitt County catering business charged
Inspectors: Robbie's Grill and Catering had no permit
The owner of a Pitt County catering business now faces more than a dozen charges for allegedly operating his business without a permit. According to health officials, the building was so unsanitary, it had to be condemned.
Robbie Nicholson has been charged with 13 misdemeanors for violating public health laws, according to Jo Morgan of the Pitt Count Health Department. The investigation in ongoing.
Nichols is the owner of Robbie's Grill and Catering, which was operating without a state food protection and sanitation permit, investigators said. Nicholson had been preparing food without a permit since March, 2012, according to health officials.
Inspectors said the catering business's metal building, located off Grimesland Bridge Road, had no running water, electricity or sewage disposal. According to inspectors, they also found an opening in the ceiling that allowed rain to come in, as well as large gas stoves and deep fryers, fueled by propane.

Inspectors said they also found coolers with no ice to store raw food. There were evidence that chicken, hamburger steaks, mashed potatoes, green beans, and garden salad had recently been prepared at building, inspectors added.
"We found raw chicken, raw hamburgers, hamburger steak was pulled out of the oven, and he had prepared a garden salad that was sitting on a shelf," said Andrea Manning of the Pitt County Health Department.
Nicholson catered events like office parties, serving up to 50 people at a time, Manning said.
The Pitt County Health Department is investigating at least one possible illness as a result of the catering business's unsanitary practices, health officials said.
