Democrat Walter Dalton and Republican Pat McCrory criticized each other over taxes in their first televised debate this fall in the North Carolina governor's race.
The lieutenant governor accused McCrory last night of pushing a tax reform plan that would reallocate the tax burden away from corporations to the rest of North Carolina citizens. But the former Charlotte mayor says Dalton is the one who wanted to raise sales taxes earlier this year.
Dalton also accused McCrory of supporting cuts to early childhood education initiatives. McCrory said the status quo is not acceptable in education and government must look at improved results for students.
Libertarian candidate for governor Barbara Howe didn't participate Wednesday and wasn't invited to two upcoming TV debates later this month.
