Gov. Beverly Perdue picked Greenville Mayor Allen Thomas to be a commissioner for the North Carolina Alcohol Beverage Control Commission. It was Perdue's last appointment as governor.
Gov. Perdue's office mailed Thomas his oath papers on Friday, who is expected to be sworn-in next week.
"The ABC commission is an extremely big enterprise," said Mayor Thomas. "[In] other states, the Alcohol Beverage Control is more privatized. In North Carolina, as you know, it's very controlled very regimentally by the state, so it's a very important function and I'm very honored to have a chance to be part of this commission."
Thomas will fill the ABC commissioner spot vacated in November, 2011. He is in his first year as Greenville's mayor.
