A man was arrested for allegedly firing shots into a car and a home after an attempted drug robbery.
Police took 21-year-old Derek Nathaniel Peele, of Greenville, into custody on Tuesday.
According to Sgt. Joe Friday of Greenville Police, Peele was selling drugs from his home, on John Cox Lane, when an unknown person entered Peele's residence and tried to rob him of the drugs and money. Peele then allegedly went outside and fired shots at the thief's getaway car as it drove away. A nearby house and vehicle were hit in the process, Sgt. Friday said.
Officers later searched Peele's home and found marijuana, digital scales, and other drug paraphernalia, as well as $510 in cash, a .45 caliber handgun, and two semi-automatic .22 caliber rifles, according to Sgt. Friday.
Peele was arrested and charged with possession with intent to sell or distribute marijuana, maintaining a dwelling for drug sales, damage to personal property, discharging a weapon in the city, and firing into occupied vehicles. He was placed in jail under a $30,000 secured bond.
More arrests are possible in the investigation, police said.
