Former ECU pitcher arrested for alleged sex with his student
A former East Carolina University pitcher was arrested for allegedly having sex with a teen student, while the suspect worked as a dean for the victim's school in Maryland.
Foye C. Minton, Jr., 33, of Cockysville, MD, was arrested last week, the Baltimore County Police Department announced on Monday. According to ABC affiliate WMAR, he was charged with second-degree child abuse, and was being held in jail on $250,000 bond.
Minton, a native of Wanchese in Dare County, was accused of having sex with a female teen student at Shoshana S. Cardin School in Baltimore, MD. According to investigators, Minton was dean of students and director of athletics at the school during that time, and was also the victim's coach and gym teacher. Police said Minton had a four-year relationship with the victim, starting from when she was 16 years old and he was 29.
The victim, now 20 years old, came forward about the alleged abuse in December, police said. According to investigators, the sexual activity happened at the victim's high school, at the suspect's home and various other locations.
Minton was arrested at the Day School at Baltimore Hebrew on Jan. 10, police said. He was working as a teacher there.
According to police, there may be other victims.
Minton was a pitcher for the ECU pirates from 1998 to 2001. He pitched no-hitters against NC State in 1999 and Duke in 2000. Minton also played for Manteo High School in Dare County.
