Flyers expose residents' voting histories
Millions of registered voters got a big surprise recently. Their names, addresses, and voting histories are listed together on flyer -- exposing who made it to the polls in the last several elections, and who didn’t.
The flyers are produced by Virginia-based Americans for Limited Government. The bold gesture by the organization raises the question of whether or not the flyers are an invasion of privacy.
Sherry Wilkinson of Morehead City said she got a flyer.
"It showed my neighbors who has or hasn't voted in 2004 and 2008, my name included,” Wilkinson said. “I'm proud to say that I DO exercise my right to vote.”
The Huffington Post reports that election boards across the country have been flooded with complaints, including North Carolina.
Carteret County Board of elections has not received any complaint at this time, but has been instructed by the state on how to handle complaints.
Although voting records are public records, do you feel this is an invasion of your privacy? Let us know in the comments below.
