First Day For New City Manager
New Greenville City Manager Barbara Lipscomb starts her first her first day in office Monday, getting acquainted with staff and discussing other new hires for the city.
Lipscomb has five years of experience as Assistant City Manager and Interim City Manager for Gainesville, Florida. Lipscomb said she has spoken with former Greenville City Manager Wayne Bowers about the position but is taking into consideration the input and ideas from current council members and Mayor Allen Thomas.
"I'm already looking in the e-mails, looking at the problems trying to figure out ways to make our responses more efficient. So I'm glad to be back in the saddle," Lipscomb said. " I'd like to make sure Greenville is sustainable from an economic standpoint for a community development standpoint and from a social standpoint."
Lipscomb said she has already looked at some resumes submitted for the Public Works Director position and is working with a special recruiting company to help hire a new Chief of Police.
Lipscomb said she will meet with each of the council members personally to make sure any decision made in the future will be that of the majority.
Lipscomb meets with Mayor Thomas Tuesday.
