Firefighter hospitalized after house fire
Six-member family displaced
A Thursday morning fire displaced a six-member family from their home near Vanceboro.
The home, on the 900 block of Highway 118, is left with gaping holes in its walls.
The family includes three children; it's unclear where the group will now live.
"We'll have to figure that out, I guess," said Shirley Britt, one of the residents.
A firefighter was hospitalized after being injured inside the home, according to Chief Stacey Lewis of the Vanceboro Volunteer Fire Department.
The firefighter fell through the floor, injuring his leg; his condition was unknown.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation; the initial call came in shortly after 11 a.m.
The fire is not suspicious, investigators said.
The Red Cross is helping the family; the usual aid package is several nights in a hotel and help with emergency food and necessities.
