Feds: Havelock restaurant used in money laundering scheme
A local man was using a Havelock restaurant as a money laundering operation, according to federal investigators.
Frenchie Leapas Reels, 37, laundered drug money by purchasing supplies for The Reel Deal Homestyle Café, 1315 E. Main St. in Havelock, according to investigators.
A federal grand jury indicted Reels late last week on charges including money laundering.
Agents raided the restaurant and seized items allegedly purchased using drug money.
Those items include deep fryers, an industrial freezer, and a 1971 Chevrolet Impala.
Reels also had five kilograms of cocaine, among other drugs, according to investigators.
Reels, of Carteret County, could not be reached for comment because he is incarcerated.
