We are learning more about the teenage victim who was killed in a weekend shooting.
Onslow County deputies said 15-year-old Anitia Law was shot and killed Saturday.
The shooting happened while she was visiting her 20-year-old sister,Shermetryce Grasty, in Jacksonville, according to family members.
Pernell Jones, a 24-year-old Camp Lejeune Marine, is charged with the murder. Deputies said Jones is Gratsy's estranged boyfriend.
Tanesha Tuft, Law's cousin, said the family is coping with the loss.
"It really hurt my heart and it hurt her mom's heart because she wanted to accomplish more," Tuft said. "She didn't accomplish her dreams and her goals yet."
Anitia is from Danville, Virginia, but recently moved to Yanceyville, North Carolina with her family, where she just finished her sophomore year of high school.
Tuft said Anitia wanted to join the Air Force someday.
"It was just insane that she got shot by somebody in a uniform," Tuft said.
"Something she wanted to wear eventually."
Jones lives with his wife in Jacksonville. It's not clear why Anitia was the target of the shooting, but Tuft said it could have to do with marriage issues between Jones and his Wife.
Anitia's mother, Carilla Law, said she plans to bury Anitia in her ROTC uniform sometime next week.
A Camp Lejeune Marine faced a judge Monday and now faces a murder charge in the death of a teen girl.
Authorities say Anitia Law was killed around 6:30 p.m. Saturday at her sister, Shermetryce Grasty's home just outside of Jacksonville -- on Weatherington Road, off Piney Green Road.
Pernell Jones, 24, was arrested shortly after the shooting was reported. Authorities said they found a shotgun inside his car. Jones is Grasty's estranged boyfriend.
Neighbors said after the shooting, Jones fled through several nearby yards, and then crashed. The car ended up in Jimmy Albertine's yard, knocking out his mail box.
"They lost that girl. You can't replace her," Albertine said. "I can replace this mailbox. But they can't replace her."
Authorities said the girl was 15 years old. Family members said Law is originally from Dansville
According to management at Hinson Arms Townhouse Rentals in Jacksonville, Jones has lived in an apartment there with his wife since 2009.
His neighbor, John Slinkard, said he heard Jones and his wife arguing outside Friday night.
"He was mad. He was talking about how he was done with the b****," Slinkard said.
It's not clear who Jones was talking about.
Jones is charged with first-degree murder and is being held in the Onslow County jail.
Onslow County deputies said they believe an argument between between the two led to the shooting.
