A badly burned human body was discovered inside an Onslow County mobile home that caught fire, and a meth lab may have been involved, deputies said.
Fire crews responded to the home at 150 Creative Lane, off Highway 53 in Jacksonville Tuesday morning. After the fire was put out, investigators found a human body inside, deputies said. But the body was so badly burned that detectives would need to compare medical records to identify the victim.
A friend said the victim was a man in his early 30's.
The cause of the fire was unknown, but it was believed that a meth lab may have been involved, deputies said. Investigators found a single-bottle meth lab in the woods near the mobile home.
The State Bureau of Investigation and the Onslow County Fire Marshal were working with the Onslow County Sheriff's Office on the case. The investigation remains ongoing.
