Cops: Bar-hopping mom left kids home alone
Police in Greenville said that while a 29-year-old mother of two was out drinking at a neighborhood bar, her kids -- ages 2 and 4 -- were home alone.
In their mother's absence, both boys went to a neighbor's house asking for help to use the bathroom. After an unsuccessful attempt to reach the mother, that neighbor then called police.
Police responded to Davis' house on Meade Street around 2 a.m. Friday, and were able to reach the mother who then returned home. When she arrived, she was intoxicated and belligerent, according to police.
Officers later arrested Amanda Davis, who was reportedly last seen at a neighborhood bar, and charged her with two counts of child abuse. She was jailed under a $1,000 bond.
Detectives from the Greenville Police SVU took the children into protective custody and contacted the boys’ father in New Bern. He came to Greenville along with Davis’ mother.
During the course of the investigation, police also learned that Davis has a recent arrest for drunken-driving and driving without a license. That happened on June 29, and she also has prior arrests for DWI and assault.
The two children were turned over to family, while the Department of Social Services continues its investigation.
Davis is scheduled to appear in court August 22nd.
