Chilly, cloudy, stormy Columbus Day

We are tracking cloudy and cool conditions for our Columbus Day. 

A front that passed off our coast Sunday has allowed a shot of cool and seasonable air behind it.  Couple that front with a band of moisture in the form of clouds trapped between 2-5,000 thousand feet in the atmosphere and we have the makings for a chilly and raw Columbus Day. 

A high pressure settling in across the Mid-Atlantic states will promote a north-north easterly wind across Eastern Carolina. 

Scattered showers and thunderstorms will develop this afternoon.  A pocket of cold air aloft moves from Arkansas towards West Virginia.  While not severe, the  clouds coupled with the rain will hold temperatures into the mid-upper 50s for most our area. 

Rain will taper off to a drizzle by overnight, tonight.  Clouds will slowly depart late tomorrow going into Wednesday.  Peaks of sun are expected by mid-week.
