Caged: Man sent to prison after dog fighting conviction
A Jones County man was sentenced to prison Wednesday after a jury convicted him on five counts of dog fighting.
A jury found Brian Tucker guilty, and a judge sentenced him to serve between 24 and 32 months in the North Carolina Department of Correction.
In addition, Tucker was ordered to receive a psychological evaluation and not own any dogs during his three-year probation.
Jones County Sheriff Danny Heath provided NewsChannel 12 with photographs that were introduced as evidence in the case.
"The courts are taking this very, very seriously," said Tom Labuda, an animal cruelty investigator for the Jones County Sheriff's Office.
The prosecution showed the jury ten videos of what it said showed Tucker's dogs fighting in a wooded area, near his Pollocksville home in Jones County. Investigators said 30 animals were rescued from the property in 2011.
Many of the dogs were adopted and now live in caring homes, Labuda said.
