Construction is underway to revamp a bumpy road in New Bern.
The city has talked for months about repairing Neuse Boulevard, but now officials said the project could start as early as this weekend.
The nine-month construction project covers a three mile area of the road, ranging from First Street to Glenburnie. It will replace a 70-year-old water main underneath the road.
The project will mean some traffic build-up for people and businesses in the area.
“It is going to affect business a little bit,” Neuse Boulevard Theater manager, John Sessoms said. “It's going to be an inconvenience to people trying to get in and around this parking lot to get to our business,”
The construction will happen in the evening through overnight hours, which will help with the traffic flow during the project, city engineer Jordan Hughes, said.
The Department of Transportation is expected to start resurfacing the road when the water main is replaced.
