A 7.4 magnitude quake shook Alaska early this morning, spurring tsunami warnings for hundreds of miles of coastline along Alaska and California.

The quake was centered about 60 miles west of Craig at a point about 6 miles deep in the ground. The Alaskan Earthquake Information Center said the earthquake was widely felt, but no damage was reported.

After the initial jolt, coastal observers were on high alert for the possibility of a large tsunami wave. The earthquake did cause a wave, but it was small enough to cancel the tsunami warnings.

Several other earthquakes occurred within an hour of the initial 7.4 event. All of them were within 100 miles of Craig, Alaska.
