A 10-month-old baby is killed by a family dog.

The attack happened Tuesday night in Hertford, North Carolina, in Perquimans County. Deputies say the baby, James Hudson, was at his grandmother's house when the dog attacked him.

The Daily Advance of Elizabeth City reports Hertford Police Chief Doug Freeman said the mixed breed dog bit the child all over his body.

The grandmother's boyfriend says the couple tried to give James CPR and tend to his wounds. Hudson died at Albemarle Hospital in Elizabeth City.

Chief Freeman said the grandmother fainted in the yard of the home and was also taken to the hospital.

Deputies say the mixed breed dog will be put down in 10 days.
