CHARLOTTE, MECKLENBURG COUNTY - Police said it appeared lightning struck a 9-year-old boy in Charlotte Wednesday afternoon, and he suffered life-threatening injuries.
According to WSOC-TV, police believe lightning struck the 9-year-old boy while he was on the track at Johnson C. Smith University.
Officials said the victim suffered life-threatening injuries and was taken to a hospital.
Police told WSOC-TV the boy's parents were present and were walking away from the field. But when they heard thunder and turned around, they saw the boy on the ground.
The 9-year-old was unresponsive when first-responders arrived, but they were able to perform CPR and get a pulse before taking the boy to a hospital, WSOC reports.
A sports camp was taking place at the university.
