NORTH CAROLINA -

A second child has died from the flu in North Carolina, bringing the total number of reported deaths this flu season to 34 in the state.

According to the Alamance County Health Department, the child passed away on Wednesday. It was the county's first flu-related death this year.

Details about the death will not be released to protect the privacy of the victim's family,  said health officials.

Prior to Wednesday's death, the Department of Health and Human Services reported 33 other flu-related deaths in North Carolina this season as of Jan. 18. The deaths include an infant from Eastern North Carolina, who passed away on Jan. 13.

The state began counting flu deaths since October. The flu season typically peaks during January and February.
