'Move Over' Law Expanded
A law meant to protect emergency services workers, like police officers and State Troopers, on North Carolina highways has been expanded to include electric utility workers. The ?Move Over? law requires drivers to move into a nearby lane or reduce speed when passing a public service vehicle that is operating a warning signal. According to The Jacksonville Daily News effective Dec. 1, drivers will have to do the same thing for electric-utility workers and vehicles. A driver who violates the ?Move Over? law could get a $250 fine and have their license revoked. If the violation results in damages, injury or death, the driver could face a higher fine or even criminal charges.
