JONES COUNTY -

A 47-year-old Jones County man and his mother were charged in connection with two DWI charges over a three-hour span, according to Trooper B. Kirk of the North Carolina Highway Patrol.

Warren Fields crashed a Dodge pick-up truck into a field off of Hwy. 58 north of Trenton shortly before 7 p.m. Saturday, Kirk said.

Fields was charged with DWI, reckless driving, and open container.

Fields had a blood-alcohol level of .16, Kirk said.

The legal limit is .08 in North Carolina.

Fields' mother, Calponia Fields, went to the Jones County jail and signed her son out of custody, Kirk said..

Calponia and her son live in the same home, near Trenton.

Trooper Kirk returned to patrol, and later found Mr. Fields back on the road, speeding in a 2003 Ford Escape, Kirk said.

That traffic stop happened just after 10 p.m.

The trooper arrested Mr. Fields, who allegedly blew a .13 during the second incident.

Mr. Fields was charged with driving while license revoked (because of the first incident), and DWI.

Calponia Fields was charged with aiding and abetting DWI.

She was charged because she knew that her son took the keys to the Ford Escape, but did not report that to police, Kirk said.

Calponia Fields was not jailed.

Kirk seized the Ford Escape, per state law.
