DUPLIN COUNTY -

Deputies say they arrested two suspects on meth charges after learning the female suspect was tampering with house arrest equipment.

The Duplin County Sheriff's Office said detectives received information on July 29 that 34-year-old Edna Ranell Shivar, of Kinston, was tampering with house arrest equipment.

Narcotic investigators then went to Edwards Road in Beulaville to conduct surveillance. Detectives said they stopped a vehicle driven by 37-year-old Jeffrey Michael Quinn, with Shivar as his passenger.

A K-9 unit then found five bags of methamphetamine and two smoking pipes inside the vehicle, said the Sheriff's Office.

Shivar is charged with possession of methamphetamine, possession with intent to sell/distribute methamphetamine, manufacturing methamphetamine, possession of drug paraphernalia, and interfering with an electronic monitoring device. She was placed in the Duplin County Jail under a $152,000 secured bond, investigators said.

Quinn, of Beulaville, is charged with possession of methamphetamine, possession with intent to sell/distribute methamphetamine, manufacturing methamphetamine, possession of drug paraphernalia, and maintaining a vehicle for a controlled substance. He was being jailed under a $250,000 secured bond.
