NewsChannel 12 has learned the identity and condition of a 11-year-old girl hit by a taxi in Carteret County.
According to investigators, Emily Surles, of Greenville, was hit by the taxi on Highway 58, near the Dunescape Villas in Atlantic Beach. The accident happened at about 8:30 p.m Monday.
Surles was first taken to Carteret General Hospital, before being airlifted to Vidant Medical Center in Greenville. NewsChannel 12 has learned she is in fair condition.
Investigators said the taxi that hit the girl is a 2001 minivan driven by Kevin Guthrie, of Morehead City. According to police, witnesses said the child could not be seen by Guthrie because she ran into the path of his taxi from behind another vehicle that was traveling in the opposite direction.
No charges have been filed, police said.
