Jason O. Boyd

Jason was born and raised in Beaufort County and has more than 25 years of journalism experience, most of it in eastern North Carolina.

He began his career at The Washington Daily News on Oct. 22, 1989 covering a high school football game and was instantly hooked with the business. After working there through college and graduating from East Carolina University in 1994 with a Batchelor of Science degree in Communications, he began his full-time career with The Daily Reflector in Greenville.

Since then, he’s been Preps Editor for The Daily Reflector, a writer for The Wilson Daily Times and a sports editor for The Washington Daily News and the Rocky Mount Telegram. After two years as the Copy Desk Sports Editor for The Ledger-Enquirer in Columbus, Ga., he became an associate editor for The Sporting News in Charlotte.

While at The Sporting News, he was an editor for a digital daily sports section that was published on several platforms. He also did extensive work on SportingNews.com, writing stories mostly about NASCAR. He also did part-time work as an editor, writer and designer for The Stanly News & Press in Albemarle, N.C.

Recently, Boyd and WCTI12.com were recognized by Shareablee as leading in social media in the very competitive Greenville-New Bern-Washington, N.C. markets. The news was reported by NetNewsCheck.com, a leading business magazine and website of local digital media.

Jason is a 14-time award winner, winning numerous awards from the North Carolina Press Association in addition to Cox Newspapers, McClatchy Newspapers, the Georgia Sports Writers Association and the Associated Press Sports Editors contests.

Jason joined WCTI in May of 2015 and currently serves as the station’s Digital Media Manager. He enjoys sports, movies, technology and games, especially Words With Friends.
