Infiniti used the 2013 North American International Auto Show in Detroit Monday to unveil a new car and a new naming convention.

The car is the all-new Infiniti Q50, and it replaces the outgoing G37 sedan.

"We challenged ourselves with this new Infiniti Q50 to take another great leap in terms of proportion, 'Infiniti-ness' and premium quality. It presents a new benchmark of Infiniti's sedan leadership," said Infiniti Chief Creative Officer Shiro Nakamura .

Under the Q50’s heavily sculpted sheet metal is a 328-horsepower 3.7-liter V6 engine.  A hybrid system will also be available.

Inside, the car will be equipped with plenty of luxury, plus a new steering system called Infiniti Direct Adaptive Steering.  Unlike a typical mechanical steering system, the Infiniti system transmits steering input electronically, allowing the steering to be customized for different driving conditions.

With the Q50, Infiniti ushers in a new naming convention for its cars in which all models will begin with the letter Q.  Different numbers will differentiate the models, with the Q prefix for cars and the QX prefix for SUVs.

The new Q50 goes on sale this summer.
