Ashley Talley is the assistant news director at WCTI NewsChannel 12. She came to New Bern from Charlotte, N.C., where she worked for more than four years at WSOC-TV, the ABC affiliate and top station in the market. She also reported for WFAE, the NPR affiliate. Her TV career began in Wilmington, N.C., where she was the assignment manager at WWAY-TV3.
Ashley grew up in southern Virginia, where she learned to love reading from her mother, travel from her father and cooking from her grandmother. She graduated from Brown University with a B.A. in English and honors in creative writing, and she spent a semester studying British literature in London. After college, she worked for Coastal Living magazine, then taught high school English in her hometown. Following a stint in Philadelphia, Ashley lived with her family in Malaysia and spent months traveling solo through Southeast Asia and China.
Ashley earned an MFA in creative writing from UNC Wilmington, where she loved beach life, and the literature and writing classes she taught at UNCW. After freelance writing and editing for a year, Ashley got into television news, where she loves being on top of current events, working with the public and being involved in social media.
Ashley is thrilled to be back in Eastern Carolina, and when she’s not in the newsroom, you can find her relaxing at the beach, enjoying shops and restaurants in the area, or exploring the outdoors with her sweet dog, Lucy.
