Originally from Florence, South Carolina, Jamie Hicks fell in love with the journalism industry at a very young age and always knew that journalism would be her career choice.
In elementary school, she decided that the weather and lunch menu for the day did not have to be announced just over the school's speaker system, but would have more impact via television. Luckily for her, the principal and teachers thought so too and her calling as a journalist was conceived.
Jamie knew that if she wanted to be the best journalist possible, she would need to learn from the best. The University of South Carolina (USC) has the top journalism program in the state and that is where she headed. Jamie graduated in December, 2012 from USC with a Bachelor of Arts in Broadcast Journalism and a minor in Political Science. Two weeks later, she accepted a position with WCTI-TV, relocated to New Bern and couldn’t be happier.
While attending USC’s Capstone Scholars program, Carolina News, Jamie acquired the technical skills and knowledge necessary to be a strong journalist. This program provided the opportunity to gain valuable experience as a reporter, producer, anchor, photographer and director. While attending college, Jamie also interned at WLTX-TV in Columbia, SC, WSOC-TV in Charlotte, NC and worked with the Associated Press at the 2012 Democratic National Convention.
Jamie has strived her whole life to reach this moment. She is happy to still be living in the Carolinas and couldn’t imagine living anywhere else.
Excited to be a part of the NewsChannel 12 team in getting the facts right - Jamie would love to hear from you.
