RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) A first-term Republican in Congress is getting another primary challenger, while the GOP keeps seeing new candidates hoping to replace retiring Rep. Sue Myrick.
Richard Speer of Fayetteville on Friday became the third Republican to challenge U.S. Rep Renee Ellmers for the 2nd Congressional District seat representing the central Piedmont. They face Sonya Holmes of Broadway and Clement Munno of Aberdeen in the GOP primary in May.
Jon Gauthier became the eighth Republican to file candidacy papers with the State Board of Elections for the 9th Congressional District seat.
Bernard A. Holliday of Creedmoor became the first Democrat to enter the race for the 13th Congressional District. Wake County Commissioner Paul Coble and the former U.S. attorney for eastern North Carolina, George Holding, have entered the GOP race.
